The Igreja Anglicana de Mocambique e Angola – the Anglican Church of Mozambique and Angola – was inaugurated on 24 September 2021. It was formed by the Anglican dioceses in the two Lusophone countries that, until that date, had been part of the Anglican Church of Southern Africa.
Reorganisation of the Anglican dioceses in the two countries saw eight dioceses and four missionary dioceses emerge from the existing four dioceses. At a special Synod, held on 1 September, the Bishop of Lebombo, the Most Revd Carlos Matsinhe, was elected Acting Presiding Bishop and Primate of the new Province.Elections will be held in the early part of 2022 for the vacant bishoprics.
