Diocese of Fianarantsoa - The Church of the Province of the Indian Ocean

Companion Diocesan Links have been a means of developing relationships and mutual partnership in mission throughout the dioceses and parishes of the Anglican Communion for many years. The Diocese of Fianarantsoa - The Church of the Province of the Indian Ocean is seeking a new link and has given information on the diocese below. If your diocese is interested in forming a link with them please respond directly to the Bishop.

Brief history of Diocese:

The Diocese of Fianarantsoa is the youngest of the Dioceses in the Province of the Indian Ocean being formed from the Diocese of Toamasina in 2002. The area was too large for the Bishop to make visits to the whole diocese. The Diocese of Fianarantsoa has three districts, 10 parishes and 45 churches with 10,000 Christians. We have 8 priests and 10 Evangelists. The Diocese has three primary schools. As a new Diocese we are still in the formation stage and need to establish a Cathedral and Bishop's house.

Any previous or existing Links:

We have some link with USPG and Canterbury Cathedral but do not have a link with another diocese.

Reason for wanting a Link:

We want to strengthen our link with the Anglican Communion for the proclamation of the Gospel. We observe the great responsibility for all dioceses to share in partnership to spread our faith in the new millennium. We desire to be together and help each other in prayer and resources.

What expectations you have of the Link?

To be linked with another diocese will broaden our knowledge and understanding of the Communion and will contribute to the development of the Church. We feel isolated and a diocesan link would bring us into a closer fellowship with another part of the Communion.

What part of the world you would like your Link to be?

We would like to link with a diocese in the USA, UK, Australian or Canada

Describe the style and patterns of church life and ministry in your diocese.
