They are: The Lambeth Conference (meets every 10 years, for bishops); the Primates Meetings (regular meetings for the senior archbishops and bishops of the 38 Provinces); the Anglican Consultative Council (meeting every 3 years or so, includes laity, bishops, priests, deacons); and the Archbishop of Canterbury in his international role as primus inter pares

From our first reading this evening, &apos;you shall be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation&apos;. These words spoken to the people of Israel in the wilderness are spoken again to the church in the New Testament. And spoken to us today. But what is it to be called to be a kingdom of priests? In the understanding of those who wrote our Old Testament lesson, the priest was the focus of everything that God&apos;s people gave to God

What is it that Jesus Christ gives us? And what is it that we are to give to the world? Jesus answers us in today&apos;s gospel, in the clearest possible way. He gives us glory; and what we are given, we must share. Certainly, he gives us forgiveness, life, confidence, the promise of eternal rest in God.

<title>Reflections on the Meeting of the Primates</title>
<link>http://www.aco.org/acns/news.cfm/2001/3/8/ACNS2411</link>
<description>

I am deeply grateful that the fruit of the primates work together this week was a Pastoral Letter and Call to Prayer, and an action plan for work together as a Communion. They speak of a common commitment to our unity in Christ.

The frequent gathering of Primates is one of the main ways by which the 38 provinces of the Anglican Communion, representing over 70,000,000 Christians, express and build their unity.

<title>Debt, poverty and trade: A human rights emergency</title>
<link>http://www.aco.org/acns/news.cfm/2001/3/8/ACNS2407</link>
<description>

In this time of information overload it becomes increasingly difficult to translate statistics into reality. In many ways the issues of our day - debt, poverty, injustice and AIDS have become catchphrases that roll too easily off our tongues but are often extremely difficult to grasp. It has also become a survival tactic to tune out information that drives us out of our comfort zones.

<title>Canon Law and Communion</title>
<link>http://www.aco.org/acns/news.cfm/2001/3/8/ACNS2406</link>
<description>

I should like us: First: to reflect on Anglican experiences of church order and law. Second: to identify the role which the legal system of each Anglican church plays in the context of the global Anglican Communion - especially how collectively these systems point to an unwritten common law of the Anglican Communion. Third: to consider some practical ideas about how the law of each church might be developed to enhance global communion.

Two weeks away from the family feels like a very long time - however lovely the scenery, however friendly the locals. Something absurd happens, someone says something odd or amusing; and I think, &apos;I must tell my wife, she&apos;d love that.&apos; I look at advertisements in a local paper and think, &apos;The children would enjoy that.&apos; I&apos;m on my own, but not on my own. When I see, hear, react, the people I love best are there with me, in my mind and my feelings.

<title>The Test of Leadership</title>

The little boy trudged around his block carrying his heavy load of two suitcases. The NY policeman took little regard of the small figure until the boy had passed him four times. He stopped the lad and asked him what he was doing: &apos;Well, sir,&apos; he said, &apos;I&apos;ve run away from home but my mother always told me never to cross the road.&apos; The story could well represent, in this season of Lent, our rebellious nature that desires freedom yet feels the constraint of the moral law in our hearts.

As Primates of the Anglican Communion, gathered in the Holy City, Jerusalem, the Mother City of our Christian faith, we join with the Christian leaders in the Holy Land in a call for peace, justice and equality for all people. Of particular concern for us is the status of Jerusalem, a place sacred to the three great world religions, Christianity, Judaism and Islam

Given by The Most Rev. Edmond L. Browning Presiding Bishop, Episcopal Church USA. I have no intention of repeating the eloquent words of the Archbishop of Canterbury on Tuesday evening, when he spoke of the future of Jerusalem, this golden city beloved of so many people. At other times, and in other places, I have had my say. Today I simply want to place myself squarely behind the archbishop.
